Clyde Nichols Swann, Jr., 86, died peacefully Monday, February 4, 2008, in Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. A native of Nashville, TN, he lived in Clinton 45 years. Visitation will be today from 4-7 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Home with services on Thursday, February 7, at 11 a.m. officiated by Rev. Michael Bird of Pocahontas Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park Cemetery on Clinton Blvd.
Clyde was a Sergeant in the Army Air Forces and served in Africa and Italy during World War II. He retired from Western Electric/Bell South after 44 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde N. Swann, Sr.; sisters, Anne Eford and Jane Eldridge, and his brother, Randall Swann. His daughter, Diann McLauchlin, died in 2006.
He was an avid fisherman, loved the outdoors, including bird watching. He was also a great cook. His family and friends will always remember his sense of humor and the way he could tell a story. He was a long-time member of the Moose Lodge on Hwy 80, and a member of Pocahontas Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen; sons, David and his wife, Betty, Tim and his wife, Becky, and Alan, all of Clinton; daughters, Gayla Hodges and her husband, Wayne, of Corinth, MS, and Jane Swann of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Somerlin Swann and son, Trace Grant, Chris Duncan, Brad, Kirby and Kelsi Swann, Chase King and her husband, Phillip, and children Gage, Caroline and Sam; Christine Swann and daughters, Jaylen and Demry; Nathan and his wife, Jo, and children, Aubrey and Ross Hodges; Greg Hodges and his wife, Candi and daughter, Faith; Faith Andrews and husband, Tanner and children Taylor and Trae, and Nicholas Hardt and his fiancee, Jessie Case and their son, Myles.
Pallbearers are Brad Swann, Kirby Swann, Chris Duncan, Nathan Hodges, Greg Hodges, Nicholas Hardt, Tanner Andrews, and Phillip King.
Memorials may be made to Pocahontas Baptist Church, 4200 Kickapoo Rd., Jackson, MS.
