William J. (Bill) Webb
William J. (Bill) Webb met his savior on January 15, 2021, surrounded by his children. Bill lived in Van Alstyne and attended First Christian Church. He was a loving Christian father, grandfather and great grandfather.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Christian Church, 274 S. Waco St., Van Alstyne on Saturday, January 23rd, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. There will be visitation with family after the service at the church. Face coverings are required. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to a local Christian charity of your choice. Bill was a lifelong blood donor, if you are able, please donate.
For those not able to attend the service it will be recorded and available on the church website after the service.
Bill was born in Roff, Oklahoma, to William J. and Jessie Webb on May 6, 1928. He spent his youth in Sulphur, OK and Farmersville, TX. He graduated from Farmersville High School and attended Texas A & M, Commerce. He entered the Army in 1950 and received a commission as 2nd Lt. and later fought in the Korean War. He served as an artillery forward observer and later served as Battery Executive Officer. He was proud of his first cousin Audie Murphy who was the most decorated soldier in WWII.
After his service in the Army, he married Nancy May of Whitewright and had four children. He worked for George E. Anderson Company and resided in Dallas, TX. While at George E. Anderson, he was a Manufacturer's Representative where he rose to Vice President and retired in 1986. Bill was active in his church and community; he was a deacon at Lochwood Baptist Church. He served as president of the Kiwanis of White Rock and was Layman of The Year. He participated in many fundraising efforts for the YMCA, United Way and the Gideons. Bill also served on the Dallas County Grand Jury.
After several years of retirement, he purchased the Van Alstyne Leader. He continued his community service in Van Alstyne as President of the Hurricane Creek Rotary Club, Chairman of the Van Alstyne Library Expansion, South Grayson College Advisory Board, Grayson County Grand Jury and Senior Center Board.
Left to cherish his memory, his children, Ron Webb of Leonard, TX; Holly (Danny) Carter of Van Alstyne; Christi (John) Mahon of The Colony; Kenny (Andrea) Webb of Friendswood, TX; grandchildren Travis (Amanda) Carter; Nancy (Dustin) Stephens; and Russell (Julie) Carter; Brendan (Erin) Webb, Clayton (Kelsey) Webb, Alexis and Jacob Webb. He also leaves behind seven great grandchildren: Taygen, Hunter, Ainsley, Piper, Cora, Leighton and Ruby. A special niece Vicki (David) Sinderson of Colorado Springs; sister-in-law Ann May of Sherman; and nephews Rusty (Kristen) May of McKinney and William May of Sherman. He has double cousins in Oklahoma that will miss him very much.
Also, a very special friend Dolly Caraway of Van Alstyne.
He was preceded in death by his Mother Jessie and Father William, sister Jean Kemp and brother- in-law Rusty May.
