Theresa was a devout Catholic. She was a licensed Cosmetician and after raising her son, she went back to Nursing School and obtained her license in 1975. She continued to work retiring at the age of 80 being named as a noteworthy nurse by Marquis Who's Who.
Theresa was a past President of the Louisiana Chapter National Federation of Democratic Women; Member of the Louisiana Democratic Finance Council; United Daughters of the Confederacy; Daughters of the American Revolution; Catholic Daughters of Americas; United States Capital History Society, American Security Council, Attakapas History Association, Right to Life, National Trust History Preservation, Smithsonian Association, Louisiana History Society, American Business Women's Association, Lafayette Town House, and Beta Sigma Phi.
Theresa, a native Breaux Bridge and resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Leopold Poirier and the former Emilie Poche.
She is survived by her son, Roland Maturin; grandchildren, Lindsey Smith and husband, Matt, and Ashley Gaddy and husband William, great- grandchildren, Hayden, Eli, Anthony, and Owen Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Bertha Gerard, Mary Alphonse, Carroll "Pop" Wilson Poirier, and Claude Poirier.
