ALVY BURTON "BURT" CASSTEVENS JR., was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Mansfield, Texas, to Effie May Tipps and Alvy Burton Casstevens, Sr. He passed from this life Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the Westbrook Care Center in Waurika, Okla., at the age of 89.
He and Winifred Wiley were married May 7, 1949, in Ft. Worth, Texas. She preceded him in death. He served his country in the United States Army in World War II, from July 21, 1944, to August 19, 1946. During his service, he was awarded the following service decorations and citations: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Bronze Star medal, Victory Ribbon, three Overseas Service bars, and a Good Conduct medal. Prior to enlisting in the Army, Burton worked as an aircraft assembler in San Diego, Calif. After returning from the service, Burton worked for over 20 years as a sales manager for Frigidaire, where he retired in 1974.
Survivors include one brother, Bill Casstevens and his wife Pattye of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Mildred Reitz and Ina Mae Wynn, both of Arlington; three grandchildren, Aaron Casstevens of Henderson, Nev., Kyle Casstevens and his wife Leslie of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Travis Pelton of Waurika; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Casstevens-Etheridge of Waurika; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service for Mr. Casstevens will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington, Texas, under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home of Waurika.
