Lawrence Oberla, who has resided for the past 22 years in this vicinity died last Friday, Jan. 4, at the home of his son, Chas. Oberla.
Mr. L. Oberla was born Feb. 26, 1834, in Frankfort, Germany. His parents came to the US when he was but four years old. They resided in Ohio for some time.
Like every young man Lawrence wanted to travel so he went to Logansport, Indiana, where he later married Nancy Viola Button.
They lived in Indiana on a farm until the spring of 1897, when they moved to Harrington, North Dakota. Residing there only a year they journeyed to Spokane in the spring of 1898, remaining four years.
In July 1902 he brought his family to Chelan and took up a homestead in the Boyd district, he resided up to the time of his death. His life's companion, Mrs. Oberla, passed away almost a year ago.
Mr. Oberla was a man of sterling qualities and was loved by old and young alike.
He is survived by four sons and two daughters: Jessie Oberla, Somerton, Ariz.; Mrs. Frankie Robertson, Logansport, Ind.; Pardon Oberla, Logansport, Ind.; Mrs. J. D. Douglas, Yakima; Lois Oberla, Idaho City, Idaho; and Chas. Oberla, Chelan.
His funeral was held last Sunday at 1:30 in the Methodist Church, Rev. Attenborough officiating.
