Scott McLeod Rorick, beloved Uncle, Godfather, Hunter, Fisherman, Gentleman Farmer and Traveler, died September 15, 2022, in Toledo Hospice care after a long battle with throat cancer. When quality of life became an issue, he chose to forego further treatments.

Born on June 17, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, as the fifth son to Horton and Marsh McLeod Rorick, Scott grew up in Ottawa Hills on Brookside Road along the Ten Mile Creek and flood plain where he, his brothers, and friends learned to appreciate wildlife … often bringing home stray or baby animals of all kinds, whether scaled, feathered or finned. The Rorick house was a menagerie.

After high school, that love of the outdoors drew Scott to Northern Michigan University in the Michigan Upper Peninsula where hunting, fishing, and hockey could be enjoyed alongside classes. After a few years, even Scott got tired of the endless winters, and came back home to attend the University of Toledo. During that time, he began working at a local box factory and in the various construction adventures with Mitchell-Rorick Enterprises.

Eventually, in the mid 80's, he was smitten with the idea of owning a bar & convenience store – he purchased and operated Woody's Carryout and the Sand Trap Lounge on Hill Avenue. After a few years, the reality of operating such a time-demanding retail operation became overwhelming. Hunting & fishing had to take a back seat to operations. He sold those businesses to join two of his brothers at Renew Valve & Machine Company, where he spent the rest of his 30+ year career, retiring in 2017 as a Sales Account Manager.

Since his home on Emmajean Road was contiguous to the then new University/Parks Bike Trail and his parents' property which had 50+ acres of woods and fields – Scott was able to surround himself with nature. His hunting & fishing trips to New Zealand, Montana, and adventurous cruises supplemented the family's annual Spring Break on Captiva Island. He adored fly tying, great food, great wine, cooking, the study of cooking, and the critique of cooking.

Being single allowed him to have an unwavering opinion on most things … especially cooking and politics. His Facebook rants were epic. In lieu of marriage and parenting, Scott became a favorite uncle to many nieces & nephews – and special godfather to Oliver. He became an adopted uncle to several of his best friends' children. He was always grateful to be included in the families of David, Ziggy, Paul, Phillip, Trig, Jimmy, Buoy, Oaks … and his late-in-life neighbors on Estateway Road. Very special friends.

During the 14 years on his Estateway property, inherited from his parents, he raised multiple generations of dogs, chickens, turkeys, tropical fish, and even canaries … to the delight of all those who would visit. Glorious homegrown tomatoes & peppers adorned his recipes.

Scott McLeod Rorick was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stevie, and nephew Aaron. He is survived by his brothers Andrew (Nancy), Nick, Michael (Ann Bergman), J.B. (Suzanne), and Tim. Also missing Scott will be the many nieces and nephews – children and stepchildren of the aforementioned brothers.

The Rorick family wishes to give special thanks to Lavern Enochs, the Toledo Hospice crew, the Arista nursing staff, and to Robin Baither … all of whom enabled Scott to live out this past summer in the comfort of his home. More special praise to Lisa, who cared for Scott's dogs during the hardest times, and saw to their successful adoption to family and friends.

A memorial celebration of Scott's life will be held in the near future. Burial will be private at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, The Upper Manistee River Association, or Toledo Opera.

Final arrangements were entrusted to Foth-Dorfmeyer Mortuary, where online condolences may be left at www.fothdorfmeyer.com

Scott - May you wade the rivers and streams of heaven and may there always be a caddis hatch.
