Then the canal cut through, a basin dug, and property rose in value. By 1831, Daniel Spencer had sold village lot 3 to John Keller for $120, and village Lot 7 to John VanDeVenter for $70. Both deeds called the locality: "Spencer's Basin", a term not mentioned in his second sale, June 13, 1829, when he deeded 1.85 acres on the west side of the basin to Philander Kane for $1,700. Charity Hancock and L.Kilborn all purchased land in Lot 32 before Daniel's death on January 12, 1835. His lands were inherited by his wife Polly(Foster) Spencer, and sons Joseph A., 9, and Libbeus F., 6. For more than a decade, sales by the heirs continued.

1804, a group which included Timothy Spencer and two of his
sons, Daniel and Austin made their way up the Hudson River, anatural travel route, the Mohawk Valley, and the Cherry Valley. Upon reaching Springfield, NY, Timothy, Sarah his wife, and son Austin stopped. Daniel (age 24) and his wife Anna (sister of George Willey) came to what is now know as Ogden. He purchased 180 acres of land which is now the greater part of Spencerport. The canal was dug through his land and when the Post Office was established, it was called Spencer's Basin. Daniel ran a sawmill, lumberyard, manufactured linseed oil, and also ran a gristmill. He operated the first tavern which was on the east sideof Main Street, south of the canal. He later sold these and purchased a farm. His first wife, Anna, died in 1825, and then he married Polly Foster" By R.
