HAGGARD J. Earle Sr., 91, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, January 11, 1997. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Tx. on October 29, 1905. In the early 1920s he moved to Chicago, Il., where he lived with his brothers and sisters. There he played baseball for a semi-professional team. He moved to Oklahoma City in the mid '20s to join his father and brother in the family furniture business. He married his beautiful wife of 59 years, La Vanche Hunley, on May 5, 1937. He was a World War II veteran, where he played on the Army golf team, and claimed he fought the Battle of Juarez with an 8 iron. During his lifetime he proudly made 3 holes-in-one. He returned to the family furniture business where he was joined by his son in 1965, and where he continued to serve until his death. Mr. Haggard was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by his wife, La Vanche; son, J. Earle Jr.; his grandchildren, Amy Lyn and J. Earle III, who were the joy of his life; a brother, Elmo Haggard of El Paso, Tx; and a sister-in-law, Velta Hunley of OKC. He was a member of First Christian Church of OKC, Masonic Lodge 36, Guthrie Consistory, and India Temple Shrine. We will miss his sweet disposition, his quick wit, and his encouraging attitude. We will always remember his true devotion, total commitment, and love for his wife, La Vanche, and his family. We love you. Memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Heart Research. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, at the First Christian Church, with interment following at Resthaven Memory Gardens. SMITH & KERNKE
