Anneliese Cohen nee Braunthal lived at Ferdinand-Wallbrecht-Strasse 20 (today no. 38), in Hannover, Germany, with her husband Herbert Cohen. The couple fled to Amsterdam in September of 1937. Following the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in 1942, they were arrested and placed in the Westerbork camp. From there they were deported to Auschwitz and murdered. Her mother Else (Bock) Braunthal (1881-1934) died in Frankfurt, her father Max Julius Braunthal (1878-1946) survived the war with his second wife Charlotte (Silbermann) Braunthal and died in Paris, France. Her brother Erich Braunthal (1905-1966) also died in Paris. Her sister Lotte Cecile Braunthal (1907-1994) emigrated from Paris to the USA in 1941 and died in New York. Lotte also provided testimonies of her sister Anneliese and brother-in-law Herbert to Yad Vashem in 1977.
