Sam married Rosealtha Ameila Ercanbrack on 08 September 1879 in Burleson, Texas. They established a home in Milam County, Texas to be near Rosa's parents. Sam was a farmer. Together, they had eight children: Aaron, Bessie, Callie, Della, Carl, Minnie, Annie, and Samuel. Rosealtha (Rosa) died. Research is not able to determine exactly where and when Rosa died.
Sam Chance relocated the family from Milam County, Texas and initially settled in Sulphur, Oklahoma in 1904. His obituary lists that he relocated again the Cooperton Valley in Fairview school district in December 1907. However, I believe his newspaper obituary to be in accurate because he married Hettie Wellborn Roark Scott on 30 November 1906. Hettie was previously married to Henry Clay Scott. Sam and Hettie's marriage certificate lists Sam living in Snyder and Hettie living in Oklahoma City in 1906. So, I believe Sam relocated to southwest Oklahoma in November 1906 and not 1907 as listed in the newspaper obituary. My research does not identify any children from this marriage. Hettie died 22 August 1920. Hettie is buried in the Roosevelt Cemetery, Roosevelt, Oklahoma.
Sam later married his third wife, Lucinda Almeda Williams Riggs on 22 November 1922. She was often referred to as Ludie. Lucinda had been previously married to Walter Riggs who died in 1919. My research indicates two daughters, Geraldine (Gerry) Faye and Mary were born from this marriage. Lucinda and Walter had three children (Augustus, Oscar and Vera) who Sam claimed as his step-children. Ludie died 08 October 1958 in Mountain Park, Oklahoma.
Funeral services for Sam Chance were held in the Roosevelt high school auditorium on Sunday, 03 December 1939, with the Reverand W.A. Larey of Mangum officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Roosevelt.
