High DNA markers to Lanita Sconce Smith showing that Susan Hughes Boyd was her 4x Great Grandmother.

Susan is not found in 1840 or 1850 Census anywhere. Therefore the dod is estimation as the last time she is mentioned is in John D. Boyd's Will.

pp. 165-170 Samuel Hughes vs William R. Cox & others.
Three or 4 yrs. ago case began in chancery court of Giles Co. in name of Susan Boyd & others, widow and children of John Boyd, deceased, against William R. Cox, administrator of John Boyd, Jr. & others. to recover trust funds and other property. Among complainants were Solomon Kerr and Adeline Kerr his wife formerly Adeline Boyd and Green H.Sconce and Matilda his wife, formerly Boyd. These were daughters of John Boyd Senr. Kerr and wife Adeline live in Gibson County, Tenn., and Sconce and wife Matilda in Williamson Co. Tenn. Cox lives in Mississippi. Kerr and Sconce sold interest in suit to Hughes. Case settled in 1831 and Hughes asking for his share. Filed 19 Sept. 1837.
Exhibit of bill of sale dated 19 Feb. 1833 from Solomon Kerr and Adaline X her mark Kerr. Witness: Thomas H Nobbett and Isaac Smith. Exhibit of bill of sale from Sconce and Matilda X her mark.


Same date. Witness: Nehemah Howard, Carter A Boyd. By 30 Aug., 1837 Thomas H Nobbitt attested to writing of Carter A Boyd who had moved "to parts unknown." Edward D. Jones, Clerk. 


Elijah Boyd of Gibson Co. Tenn. John Boyd Jr. deceased was a son of John Boyd Senr, dec'd Solomon Kerr and wife has 1/8 interest in suit. 22 Oct. 1838. Kerr lived in Fayette Co. Tenn. R.S.. Rose solocitor for Elijah Boyd. Land of John Boyd Jr. dec'd was on Shoal creek adjoining lands of Barrington Jackson, Isaac Smith. Also had interest in slaves belonging to John Jr., Montgomery B. Steward. clerk of Madison Co.. Tenn., 22 Dec. 1837, Kerr and wife appeared before him.


Sept. 9,1839 court adjudged sales to Hughes to be valid.
(John Boyd Junr had died prior to 19 Feb. 1833 and the two couples had married before this. "Other children" of Boyd Senr. also referred to.)

Elizabeth Elder and others VB William H. Rainbolt and others. Injunction Bill.Elizabeth Elder, widow of Tilman Elder, who died about 1830 leaving Mary H. Elder, Martha Elder now married to Jefferson Caldwell, Nancy Elder, Robert G. Elder, and Jane S. Elder, now of full age, and David A. Elder, and Hartwell G. Elder, who are minors...all children of Tilman and Elizabeth Elder. She is daughter of David Walker of Mechlenburg County, Virginia,
who died about 1816 leaving a will proved in Mechlenburg Co. 16 Dec. 1816. She is seeking to recover negroes left her by her father which her late husband sold without her consent. Tillman Elder sold slave woman to Lewis H. Brown about 1826 and Brown sold her to John Boyd (Jr. or Sr. she does not know), both said to be dead now. William R Cox of Limestone County Ala. administrator of estate of John Boyd Jr. widow of John Boyd Jr. has married William H. Rainbolt. Heirs of both Boyd Jr. and Boyd Sr. claim the slave and her children, John Jr is son of John Boyd Sr. 


William Rainbolt and wife Polly and a minor son named James Boyd claim as widow and heirs of Jno. Boyd Junior, Elijah Boyd, Wiley Boyd, Charles Boyd, Miles Boyd, Susan Boyd, Sam'l Hughes (in right of purchase from Matilda Boyd and Eady Boyd, daughters of John Boyd Senr.) all claim in right of Boyd Sr. Living in Giles .Co. are William H. Rainbolt and Mary, James Boyd, Sam'l Hughes and Willie Boyd. Other defendants probably not in county. Samuel Hugbes (McHughes?) claim by purchase of shares of Adaline Kerr formerly Boyd and Matilda Sconce formerly Boyd: Susan Boyd and Miles Boyd both now of age and living in Mississippi. 28 Aug 1837.

Barrington Jackson filed lawsuite aganist John Boyd Sr., heirs over a dispute on some land.

File Box J - 4 Case 641 1845 Barrington JACKSON vs. Wiley and Miles Boyd and also Barrington JACKSON represented to the Court that he was the owner in fee simple of five and one half ninths of a certain tract of land situated in the County on the West Prong of Little Shoal Creek containing 160 acres and bounded on the West by lands now owned by Barrington JACKSON, South and East by the lands of Isaac SMITH and on the North by Occupant Lands of James HAMMONDS and Levicy HUNTER. This being the same land heretofore recovered in the Supreme Court of the State of Tennessee at Nashville by the heirs of John BOYD Sr, deceased, and then occupied in part by Wiley BOYD. Barrington represented that his said interest of 51 ninths of said land is undivided and was purchased by him from the children and heirs at law of John BOYD Sr, deceased. Elijah BOYD, John BOYD Jr, Solomon KERR and his wife Adeline, Green Scouts [Sconce] and his wife Matilda, Miles BOYD, Wiley BOYD, Carter A. BOYD, John HUCKABY and wife Susan and Susan BOYD widow of John BOYD Sr, deceased.
