Lawrence "Larry" Melvin Graham, age 86, of Zeeland and formerly of St. Louis, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Haven Park Nursing Home in Zeeland.

Funeral services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel, in St. Louis on Wednesday, April 16, at noon. The Rev. Stephen Shook will officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday, April 16, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Larry was born in St. Louis, Mich., on Oct. 7, 1921, the son of Leland and Ethel (Anderson ) Graham. He resided most of his life in the St. Louis area and graduated from St. Louis High School with the class on 1941. Lawrence married Betty Jean Waber on March 22, 1947, in Alma. She died on Nov. 21, 2006.

He was a self-employed carpenter and was also a mechanic at 300 Bowl. Larry enjoyed bowling, golf, and raising peaches. He was inducted into the Central Michigan Men's Bowling Hall of Fame in 1994. He loved his children and great-grandchildren very much.

Larry served in the Army during WW II in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Tech Sergeant.

He is survived by his son Randy and Kay Graham of Breckenridge; daughter Robin and Doug Starry of Holland, Mich.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters and brothers; Dorothy Michael of Alma, Warren Graham of Higgins Lake, Donald and Evelyn Graham of Cadillac, Helen and Jim Pike of Hastings, Elsie Curtis of Mobile, Ala., and Norman and Sandy Graham of Harrison. He is predeceased by his parents, wife, grandson Ryan Joseph Starry, and brother Robert Graham.
