He was known as a "jack of all trades"; from gardening (winning the McCoy Neighborhood Beautification Award in 2015), and car repair to even building his retirement dream home in Warrensburg, Missouri.

He moved on to work for Ford Company producing Fighter Planes. His green thumb came about when he took on jobs doing landscaping throughout Independence, Missouri. His mechanical prowess took him to Bendix Cooperation, working for 34 years, retiring as a tool and die machinist. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Barbara. They enjoyed packing up their camper and traveling with friends all over the country.
