1901 joined the Rock Island police force, previously working at the old Rock island Plow works. He made his first arrest on May 27, 1901.
In 1903 he left the force because of what he termed corruption in the department and city administration. 4 years later after a change in administration he was asked personally by the new mayor to return, which he did.
11 Aug. 1919 he was promoted to detective.
8 Feb. 1923 appointed as chief of the Rock Island police department, serving this position for 21 years.
31 Mar. 1944 retired after 40 years as a patrolman, detective and chief of the Rock Island police department.
Died age 78 at local hospital.
Survivors: several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Martha Sehnert Johnston who looked after him.
Preceded by wife 12 years. parents, brothers William H., Louis, August, and Charles Sehnert;
sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Morgner and Mrs. Martha Sehnert.
Note: brother August formerly was owner and operator of the old Manufacturers hotel and American House in Rock Island.
