August F. Sehnert, 1104 Third street, Rock Island, former deputy sheriff, city health officer, and a brother of Chief of Police Herman Sehnert, died this morning at his home at 2:30 o'clock after a year's illness. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. He was 57 years old.
The deceased was born July 7, 1866, in Rock Island, and had lived here all his life. He was educated in the public schools of Rock Island. After he finished his education he became a blacksmith at the Rock Island Plow company, and worked there many years. Recently he had been employed as an inspector at the Rock Island Manufacturing company. He worked in this position until last summer, when he became ill.
Mr. Sehnert served for two years as city health officer during the first McCaskrin administration. Later he became a deputy sheriff under Sheriff John Miller. After serving as deputy sheriff he went into the employ of the Rock Island Manufacturing company as an inspector.
He married Miss Matilda Osenberg in 1899. She died in 1916. Two years later Mr. Sehnert married Miss Augusta Gust, who survives with three sons, Raymond, Joseph, and William, all of Rock Island. Another son, August, died a year ago. He also leaves four brothers, Herman, WIlliam, Louis, and Charles, all of Rock Island, and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Sehnert, Chicago, and Mrs. Elizabeth Margner, St. Louis, Mo.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
