Physician, 54, Dies Suddenly

Camden – Dr. Von B. Barnhiser, 54 years old, 342 North Main street, died suddenly Sunday morning of a heart attack. The attack occurred just after Dr. Barnhiser returned home from his morning hospital calls.

A native of Lewisburg, Dr. Barnhiser received his elementary and high school education there, the attended Ohio State university, Ohio university and Morgantown university at Morgantown, W. Va., for his pre-medical training.

He received his Bachelor of Medicine degree from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Barnhiser interned at Lincoln General hospital, Lincoln, Neb., received a doctorate in medicine from UC in 1928 and came back to Camden to establish his practice.

In 1939, Dr. Barnhiser went to Europe and studied surgery and medicine in Budapest. He served overseas as a doctor with the air force during World Wart II and was discharged as a lieutenant colonel.

Affiliations Listed:

Dr. Barnhiser was a member of the Ohio state, the American and Preble county medical societies; the Camden lodge, No. 59, F. & A.M. and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton.

Survivors include the widow, Helen; the mother, Mrs. Josie Barnhiser of Lewisburg; four brothers, Bernis and Lobert, both of Lewisburg, Armand of Eaton and Jack of Dayton; four sister, Mrs. Vivian Emrick of West Manchester, Mrs. Ena Sink of Van Wert and Miss Zethena and Miss Wanza Barnhiser both of Lewisburg. Is father died in October.

Private funeral services for Dr. Barnhiser will be held Wednesday at the R. C. Nein funeral home. Rev. Forrest Brown, pastor of the Lindenwald Methodist church in Hamilton, will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery in Lewisburg. There will be no visiting hours.
