Thomas Hollis
Thomas Hollis, 91, of Havenwood Retirement Community, formerly of Concord, Mass., died Friday.
He was born in Chicago, Ill., and attended Concord, Mass., schools and graduated from Concord High School in Massachusetts. He was a 1918 graduated of Harvard University in conjunction with Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During World War I, he served as an ensign in Naval Aviation. In the 1920s he owned and operated Better Motors, a Hudson-Essex Dealership in Concord, Mass., and from 1934 until his retirement in 1958, he was an executive with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Co.
He was a charter member of the Concord (Mass.) Rotary Club, a charter member and leader of the Concord (Mass.) Board of Trade and a charter member and founder of the IOTA Club at Harvard.
He was the husband of the late Hilda (Smith) Hollis and the brother of the late John C. Hollis and Howard C. Hollis. He leaves a son, Thomas Hollis Jr. of Peterborough; two daughters, Hilda Roy of Sudbury, Mass., and Barbara C. Hollis of Provo, Utah; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Plaut of Keene.
Services will be private.
Burial will be at the family plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, Mass.
The family requests flowers be omitted and suggests donations be made to the Havenwood Retirement Community and Nursing Home, 33 Christian Ave., Concord 03301.
The Joseph Dee and Son Funeral Home in Concord, Mass., is in charge of arrangements.
