Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30th in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Rev. Tim Johnson officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where there will be a vigil at 6:00 p.m.
Surviving is her husband Ivan; son, Gary and wife Pat of Austin, MN; grandchildren, Conrad and Jennifer Ray and their daughter, Ella of Redwood City, CA, McKenzie and Jeff Sloan of Decatur, IL; sisters, Ada Preston of Atlantic, IA, Mary Jane Lane of Greenfield, IA, Marjorie Benson of Ames, IA, Georgia Cowan of Converse, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Florence (Anstey) Spies; one brother and three sisters.
Cleone M. Spies was born July 3, 1915 in Massena, Iowa and graduated from Massena High School. She later received her teaching certificate and taught school for 2 years. Cleone was active in a dance team with her 6 sisters for several years, and they were known as the Seven Spies Sisters. On June 29, 1942, she was united in marriage to Ivan L. Ray in Omaha, NE. For 3 years while Ivan served during WWII, Cleone worked for Consolidated Air Craft. After his discharge, they moved to Atlantic and established their home. In 1953 they moved to Des Moines and then to Fort Dodge in 1958. For many years she taught dance in Atlantic and Fort Dodge. Cleone worked at the Elk's Lodge for 35 years until her retirement in 1993. She was a member of Corpus Christi Church.
