Frank E. Bigelow, 92, a pioneer of this area, died in the hospital here Tuesday.

H was born at Des Moines, Iowa, May 21, 1877, and he came to Chelan from Nebraska in 1904.

He married Ruth Boyles at Waterville Feb. 23. 1915, and they homesteaded on Howard Flat. He farmed there until 1940, and worked for the U.S. Forest Service until retiring in 1949.

Surviving are: his widow; two sons, Frank Jr., of Okanogan, and Willis, of Chelan; and four daughters, Lena Long and Marie Harris of Chelan, Mrs. Joseph DePonti, Sacramento, Calif., and Harrietta Zachary, Vancouver, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harrietta L. "Babe" Zachary, 86, of Chelan, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at Lake Chelan Community Hospital.

She had lived in Chelan for 36 years. She was a caregiver and worked at the Apple Inn Motel for 22 years.

Survivors include her son, Edward Zachary of Portland, Ore.; her brother, Bill Bigelow of Chelan; and her sister, Lena Long of San Marcos, Calif.

A tribute service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Chelan Senior Center, the Rev. Frank Needles officiating. Private interment will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Arrangements are by Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
