Married to Sarah Corinna Finley on May 17, 1870 and father of Nellie, Cora, Tate, Frank, Walter, William and Henry. He served in the Confederate Army with the rank of Captain and was thereafter known as "Cap'n Blair". Soon after moving to Wilkes , he bought all the land from Blair's Island in the Yadkin River to the land that is now the Fairplains section. His plan was for the town of North Wilkesboro to be located there. He thought the land was prettier there as well as more healthful and it is said that it actually is. However, when the railroad was built that changed the plans for the location of the town. He built his first home in the block where Carolina Business Machine was located and established a small private school on the grounds and the teachers lived in the home. The school closed when his childen were grown. Later, when he needed a larger home, he cut the original house exactly in half and had each part moved about two or three blocks away to the site near the Bryce Caudill home now on C Street, one on each side of the street. He gave each of his two daughters a half and they used these for rental properties for several years. The Blair home was burned about 1937 and as it burned, two of his great-grandchildren who were living there were also burned to death. The house was renovated and used again as a home for several years, but later demolished. When the original house was being built and being furnished, the furniture was ordered from Baltimore, including a grand piano which has been rebuilt and is in use today by one of the great-great-grandchildren (this was written in 1982).
