Brownstown Banner. Wednesday, April 1, 1925 (p. 7) Brownstown, Indiana.

Guthrie Creek

Mrs. Phetney M. Black, wife of Henry Black, deceased, aged 85 years, 6 months and 22 days, native of Lawrence county and one of the oldest and highly respected residents, passed away March 24, at 6 o'clock at the home of her son, Thomas Jackson, of Bedford, following a week's illness of paralysis. Owing to her advanced age she has been in declining health for some time. She suffered a stroke of paralysis March 14, from which she never rallied.

Mrs. Phetney Black, daughter of Julius and Phebe Vawter, was born 2 Sept. 1839, about a mile and a half north of Leesville. She was the last member of her immediate family to pass into the great beyond.

Her husband preceded her in death about fifty-nine years ago. She leaves to mourn her death three children: Geo. Black of this place, Mrs. Lucy Mikel and Thomas Jackson of Bedford, besides several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. Williams of Bedford Thursday, March 26, at the Guthrie Creek Church, where the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery nearby.
