Henry served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He enlisted as a Pvt. on 02 Oct 1863 at Leavenworth, Kansas. He served in the 15th Regiment Company F, Kansas Cavalry. His Regiment mustered out on 07 Apr 1865 at Ft. Scott, Kansas. He made Application# 123123-Cert.# 43324 for veteran's pension in 1867. His wife Hattie made Application# 623817-Cert.# 432532 for widow's pension in 1895.

Obituary: AN OLD SETTLER DEAD-Henry Baker Passes Away on the Old Sumner Townsite-Henry Baker, who had lived in Atchison county since the war, passed away at his home on the old Sumner townsite Wednesday morning at 5:30 o'clock. The cause of his death was heart disease which he contracted during the war and for which he drew a pension. Mr. Baker was 51 years of age at the time of his death. He was quite well known in Atchison, having been a conspicuous figure in the Atchison market for a number of years. He was a brother of Mrs John Weinman and Chris Baker of this city. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Thursday and the remains will be interred in the Sumner cemetery.(Src: Atchison Daily Globe, Thursday, May 2, 1895.)
