Funeral services for John R. Anthony, 75, were held in the Chapel Browning Funeral Home at two o'clock in the afternoon Sunday, March 14, 1999, with Dr. Billy Ray Stonestreet officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Anthony died of heart failure at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley on March 10, 1999.

Born September 9, 1923, in Water Valley, Mr. Anthony was a son of the late Eddie Albert and Fannie P. Hall Anthony. He was a Manager for Armour Food Company for 42 years. A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Mr. Anthony was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4100, where he served 15 years as the Post Surgeon General. He was also a member of The American Legion.

Survivors include: his wife, Mable Mathis Anthony of Water Valley; a daughter, Jeanette Whitehead of Water Valley; three sons, James R. Anthony of Florence, Alabama, Claud R. Anthony of Memphis and Mark Anthony of Water Valley; a sister, Mattie Chrestman of Southaven; a brother, Billy Joe Anthony of Collierville, Tennessee; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
