A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Mr. Anthony was a lifetime member of VFW Post 4100, where he served 15 years as the Post Surgeon General. He was also a member of The American Legion.
Survivors include: his wife, Mable Mathis Anthony of Water Valley; a daughter, Jeanette Whitehead of Water Valley; three sons, James R. Anthony of Florence, Alabama, Claud R. Anthony of Memphis and Mark Anthony of Water Valley; a sister, Mattie Chrestman of Southaven; a brother, Billy Joe Anthony of Collierville, Tennessee; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
