John Zerener was born April 29th 1861 in Fischback, Bayreuth, Bavaria, Germany to Johann and Cordula nee Metal Zerener. He passed away on October 25, 1944 at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 26 days in Wichita, Kansas at Saint Francis Hospital. His father died 6 weeks before he was born. He lived with his mother until her death. He served for 2 years in the German navy. After an Honorable Discharge, he left for America. He first landed in Western Kansas, but he did not like it there. So he moved east and settled in the Cheney, Kansas community, where he met Augusta Lentz, and they were married later. They moved to Leon, Kansas, later they lived at Mulvane, Kansas and Peck, Kansas, before moving back to Cheney, Kansas, where they lived until they passed away.
Their family consisted of seven sons and three daughters. He had 19 grand children.
