At the age of 9 months he came to America and grew to manhood in the state of Pennsylvania, and was united in marriage to Emma E. Rothwell, April 8, 1886. To this union, eight children were born. He was preceded in death by 5 children, his parents, one sister, and one brother. In 1909 he moved his family to Iowa, and lived in Appanoose county and made his home in Plano, until the last three years. He leaves to mourn his passing his children, Ida Mode, Mystic, Ia. Deborah Lacey, Chariton, Iowa, Emmett Philby, Mystic, and one adopted son, Thomas Hall, Leachburg, Penn. Two brothers, and two sisters Sam Philby, Brazil, Ia., Joe Philby, Alice Turner and Sylvania Cowles, all of Centerville; 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
He was a member of the Methodist church of Plano.
Funeral services were held at Plano Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 1:30 April 28, 1941. Rev. George Swan officiated with Kenneth Hunt assisting. Interment in Philadelphia cemetery.
