Christian Buckhold, son of Louis and Frederica Buckhold was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, April 11, 1855. He came with his parents to Three Rivers, Michigan in 1872. He was converted and joined the Evangelical Church in 1873, and was for many years a faithful member. He was united in marriage to Alice Bent, October 29, 1880. To this union four children were born; Louis R. of Wyoming, Mary E. Kaiser and Herman J. Buckhold of Three Rivers, and Bessie L., who preceded him in death.

He lived on his farm southeast of Marcellus for thirty-eight years; nine years ago he moved to Marcellus where he died August 7, after three years and seven months of intense suffering.

He leaves to mourn their loss, his companion in life who has cared for him faithfully; three children, nine grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Weber, Mrs. Jessie Dittmer of Three Rivers and Mrs. Dora Meyres of Marcellus, and many other relatives and friends. In health he was a loving husband, a kind father, and a wonderful neighbor, always ready to help in sickness or need.

'We cannot say, and we will not say that he is dead. He is just away; with a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, he has wandered into an unknown land and left us dreaming how very fair it needs must be since he lingers there. And you, O you, who the wildest yearn. For the old-time step and the glad return. Think of him faring on, as dear In the love of There as the love of Here. Think of him still as the same, I say He is not dead, he is just away.'
