OPELOUSAS ~ Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas for Gladys Ardoin, age 82, the former Gladys Brown, who passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at her home in Opelousas.

Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington. Rev. Neil Pettit, pastor of St. Landry Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.

Mrs. Ardoin was a native of Morrow and a lifelong resident of Opelousas. She met the love of her life, Burnley "Blanc" Ardoin, Sr., upon his return from the Korean War and they were married in February of 1956. She was a dedicated wife of 66 years and a loving mother of six.

Gladys was very proud of having accomplished being the first college graduate in her family line, receiving an Associate's Degree from LSU-E in Criminal Justice. She and her husband also built a grocery store business together, later had a furniture store and then a restaurant, before their retirement.

Mrs. Ardoin was extremely active in her community with memberships in the Elks Lodge Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, the Opelousas Civic Club, Unique Club, Opelousas Women's Club, and the Louisiana Federation of Women's Club. She was most proud of her service as a board member and Secretary/Treasurer for St. Landry Parish Juvenile Services.

Gladys was also a master crafter who enjoyed crocheting and knitting, needle point, and gardening. She was an accomplished seamstress, an artist, a poet, and an avid reader and lover of learning. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who will be missed by all those who had the great pleasure of knowing her.

Survivors include her children, Charlette Ardoin of Opelousas, Burnley "Joe" Ardoin, Jr. of Washington, Susan Ardoin Stoot of Opelousas, Vickki Ardoin Striedel (Mike) of Ingleside, TX, Darrell J. Ardoin (Cindy) of Tallahassee, FL, and Gerald J. Ardoin (Christina) of Silverhill, AL; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her Godchildren, Lloyd Ardoin, Jr. and Jay Brown.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Burnley "Blanc" Joseph Ardoin, Sr.; her parents, Charlie Freeman Brown and Elizabeth Johnson Brown; three grandchildren, Delaina Ardoin Lafleur, LCpl. Caleb Genin, and Marshall Huckaby; an infant great-grandchild, Matthew Wayne Ardoin; her brother, J.C. Brown; her sister, Birdie Lee Ardoin and her husband, Lloyd; a sister-in-law, Jane Ortego Brown.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Ardoin, Joe Ardoin, Darrell Ardoin, Tony Ardoin, Jake Willoughby, Larry Weeks, and Mike Striedel.
