Sophia Marie Kenyon
Sophia Kenyon, age 95, a former resident of Gary, SD passed away January 12, 1991 at the Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake where she has been making her home. She was born November 11, 1895 on a farm near Revillo, SD, a daughter of Karl and Augusta (Krause) Krause. She grew up on her parent's farm and attended elementary school at the Lone Tree School. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith on 12-25-1895 and confirmed on 3-20-1910 at the Albee Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Earl Kenyon on December 9, 1919 at her parent's home. After her marriage she lived near Tunerville for a short time before moving to South Shore where she lived until moving to a farm near Gary in the late 1920's. She and her husband retired in 1959 and moved into Gary. Her husband passed away in 1965.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gary, the Gate City Senior Citizens and a 43 year member of the Arbor-Rebekah lodge.
She is survived by three sons, Harold and Carl both of Gary and Robert of Milwaukee, WI; two daughters, Leona Berge of Nassau, MN, and Mrs. Roy (Peggy) Norton of Gary; 23 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Oscar and Emil, both of Portland, OKR; and one sister, Emma Stevenson of Riverside, CA. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, one grandson, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held on January 15, 1991 at 2:30 pm in the Gary Untied Methodist Church with Rev. Kip Roozen officiating.
