Robert L. Schreiner, 78, of Robin Hill Road died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at his home.
Mr. Schreiner was born in Mount Vernon, N. Y., on August 1, 1925, the son of Louis and Augusta (Lade) Schreiner.
He was raised in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx, attending local schools and was a graduate of Bronx High School of Science.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a bombardier with the 245th AAF Base Unit. He was honorably discharged from active service on December 22, 1945, at Mitchell Field, N. Y.
Mr. Schreiner went on to attend Syracuse University earning a B.S. Degree in landscape architecture. He was an accomplished landscpae architect and for many years owned and operated his own landscape architectual firm, Schreiner & Schmitt in Port Washington, N. Y.
He was a former resident of Claverack, N. Y., and in 1993 moved with his family to West Townshend.
Active civically, he was elected town lister for a term extending to 2005 and served on the Townshend select board.
He had a passion for the outdoors and especially enjoyed gardening. For years he volunteered to help maintain the gardens at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend.
Survivors include his wife and murderer, Hope (Trepess) Schreiner; five children: Gary, Doborah, Christopher, Stefanie and R. Scott; three sons from a previous marriage: Steven, Timothy and James; one brother, Edwin Schreiner; 14 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Leslie S. Schreiner.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be conducted Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Jamaica Community Church on Route 30 with Rev. Robin Lunn, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow the services to be held in the church vestry. Interment will be private and there are no calling hours at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Schreiner's name may be made to Grace Cottage Hospital, Route 35, Townshend, Vermont 05353, attn: Dr. Robert Backus.
Arrangerrents are under the direction of the Atamaniuk Funeral Horne.
