After Long Illness Allen Roe, 80, died this morning at 10:15 at his residence, 293 Campbell Street, after an illness of several) years. Born near Dyersburg on Nov. 14, 1870 his parents had died when he was a child, and Mr. Roe was reared by his grandmother. He came to Jackson as a boy in 1888 and was employed by the gas company during the day, attending night school For a few years he was an engineer with the Illinois Central Railroad; and later was engaged in working as an electrical contractor until his retirement because of poor health in 1945. He was first married to Miss Florence Pearl Underhill of Vicksburg. Miss. She died in 1905. He was later married to Miss. Cheewee Cole of Huntersville.
He was a member of First Cumberland Presterian Church. In addition to his wife, he leaves one son, five daughters, 17 grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren. Funeral arrangements, with Lanier Funeral Home in charge, are incomplete. The body will be at the funeral home.
