A. V. Phillips, age 82, of Helenwood, Tenn., died August 24, 1995, at the Scott County Hospital.

Born in Scott County, Tenn., August 8, 1913, he was the son the late Iowa and Laura Strunk Phillips.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cloreda West Phillips; brother, L. C. Phillips, and two sisters, Parilea Sexton and Meanna King.

He was a member of the Paint Rock Baptist Church and served two terms as a Scott County Commissioner.

He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his son, Alvernon Phillips and wife, Carrie of Ditney Trail community; daughter, Vivian Sexton and husband, Leslie of Oneida, Tenn., seven grandchildren: Craig and Matthew Sexton; Tonya, Crystal, Chris, Tommy and Angel Phillips, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted August 26, 1995, at the Paint Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Dean Barnes and Rev. James West officiating. Special music was provided by Janet Yancey and Darrin Roberts. Interment followed in the Sexton Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert, David, Shane, Brandon, Kelly and Jeramy Sexton. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Oneida was in charge of arrangements.
