Professional Football Player. Born in Jamestown, Texas, he played at the defensive tackle position for seven seasons (1972 to 1978) in the National Football League, with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots. He was a member of two Super Bowl championship teams (1975 and 1976 Steelers) and part of the defense known as the "Steel Curtain". During the course of his career, Holmes appeared in 84 regular season games and was selected to two NFL All Pro Teams (1974 and 1975). He died in an automobile accident.
