Velma Corrine Aldridge, a long-time resident of Brashear, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, in the Loch Haven Nursing Home in Macon. She was 94.

Velma was born December 23, 1918, in northwest Knox County, the daughter of Claude Ernest and Maude Edith (McAnulty) Dunn. On April 18, 1946, she married Olen Ray Aldridge, who preceded her in death on March 18, 1989. Velma was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Verlee Delaney.

She was raised in rural Baring, graduating from Bible Grove High School in 1937. She graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in 1969. Velma taught five years in a one-room rural school, three years as a sixth-grade teacher in the Edina Public Schools, and 21 years in the Adair County R II Public Schools in Brashear before her retirement in 1990.

Velma was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, Missouri Retired Teachers Association, and a lifetime member of the National Parents-Teachers Association. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Christian Church and attended the United Methodist Church after moving to Brashear. Velma taught the Junior High Sunday School Class in Brashear for 16 years.

Surviving Velma are three children, Lois (Jerry) Scranton of Springfield, IL, Ray (Sue) Aldridge of Apache Junction, AZ and Randy (Debbie) Aldridge of Atlanta; 6 grandchildren, Lori (Tom) Fulhorst of Lake St. Louis, MO, Jeff (Tina) Creason of Lee's Summit, MO, Steven (Jennifer) Aldridge of Marshfield, MO, Tracy (Mike) Dailey of Pleasant Hill, IA, Tisha (Rick) Grigsby of Elmer, MO, and Travis Aldridge of Kirksville; 15 great-grandchildren, Erika, Anna and Kate Fulhorst; Rachel, Sean and Samantha Creason; Tyler, Lauren, Emily and Quinn Aldridge; Jaxon and Brooklin Dailey; and Justin, Ashtin and Blake Grigsby; three sisters, Joyce (Bill) Holdren of Baring, Joan (Jack) Hurley of Willowbrook, IL and Doris Whalen of Queen City, MO.

Funeral service will be held Sunday (August 11, 2013) at 2:00 p.m. at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Musical selections will be "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace". Interment will be at the Park View Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Creason, Steven Aldridge, Travis Aldridge, Justin Grigsby, Tyler Aldridge and Mike Dailey.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home
