Services for Raymond W. Bixby Sr., 66, of Blind Creek Cove Road, who died Friday in Good Samaritan Hospital, Watertown, are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, Syracuse. Burial be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today (Aug. 13) at the funeral home, 3111 James St. Mr. Bixby was a native of Syracuse. A retired diesel engineer for Poling Transportation Co. of New York City, he serviced tugboats for more than 40 years and was cited by the US. Department of Transportation and U.S. Coast Guard for saving lives during a boat fire. He served as an ensign with the Merchant Marine during WorId War II. Surviving are a son, Raymond W. Jr.; three daughters, Barbara Romer of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Sheila Touse and Miss Caroline, both of Syracuse; four sisters, Rose Purdy of San Leandro, Calif., Betty Lewis of Merion Station, Pa., Thelma Riano of Mobridge, S.D., and Dorothy Ringwood; seven grandchildren, a great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made to Sailors Home, New York City.
