KOREA
Troy Carter transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 21, 2022. He was born in Appling County, Georgia on October 10, 1932 and son of the late John Carter and Ora Jewel Crews Carter.
Troy enlisted in the US Army on January 26, 1953 and attained the rank of CPL, serving during the Korean Conflict (Okinawa). He transferred to the US Army Reserves and served 8 years. He met the love of his life, Elizabeth Thompson and they married in 1956 and have celebrated 66 years of marriage. Troy worked for CSX Railroad for more than 40 years. He loved to sing gospel music, spend time with family and started each morning reading his Bible.
Preceded in death by his parents, John & Ora Carter; son, Jimmy Plachek; 3 sisters: Doris Owens, Joyce Carter and Juanita Vosburgh and 2 brothers: Velee Carter and Gene Carter.
Surviving family include his wife: Elizabeth Carter; 2 children: Rita Carter and Scot Carter (Darlene); 9 grandchildren: Wendy Chesley, Lori Dean, Daniel Heath, Sara McCarty, Shannon Harris, Troy Plachek, Jackie Utt, Kaitlyn Mizell and Caroline Carter; 11 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Gloria Rains (Richard) and Evelyn Seymour.
Celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at North Jacksonville Church of God, I-95 and Edgewood Avenue with Pastor James Hull and grandson, Pastor Daniel Heath, officiating. Burial will be private at Jacksonville National Cemetery and Military Honors conferred by the U.S. Army. His family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Peeples Event Center, 14165 N. Main Street.
