Visitation will be at Ebenezer United Church of Christ, 3215 Saeman Avenue, Sheboygan from 2:00 - 4:00 pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, with a funeral service at 4 pm. Audrey (Wernecke) Grosshuesch, 83, of Sheboygan entered her eternal home on Friday, January 29, 2010. She died at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.
Daughter of Calvin and Leona (Hetzel) Wernecke, Audrey was born on November 14, 1926, in Newton, Wisconsin. Her family included seven brothers and two sisters.
She attended White Trail School in Newton, Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, and Sheboygan County Teacher's College. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lakeland College at the age of 46, with a major in elementary education and minors in mathematics and art. Her love of music was nurtured at a young age, and she mastered the piano, organ, guitar, and trumpet. She also enjoyed writing music for personal pleasure.
In 1945, Audrey married Donald William Grosshuesch of South Dakota, now deceased.
In addition to raising a large family and working on the farm, Audrey pursued her interests in gardening and music, playing piano and organ for churches in South Dakota and Wisconsin, including Ebenezer United Church of Christ and St. John's United Church of Christ. In addition to playing for other events and singing in church choirs, she was a member of Concordia German Singing Society and participated in several trips to Germany to perform there. Her eclectic interests, including education and art, led to enjoyment of work at Lakeland College, the YMCA, and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center. She took an active interest in the lives of people and enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends; she especially delighted in spending time with grand and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Jean Voeks, Marie Grosshuesch, An Grosshuesch (Quinton Ables), Steven (Sara) Grosshuesch, Mark (Ruth) Grosshuesch, Vernon (Marlene) Grosshuesch, and Carol Knorr, thirteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren due in the spring. Surviving siblings are Vernon Wernecke, Donald Wernecke, Reverend Glenn (Joanne) Wernecke, Ethel (Roger) Pauba, and Jean (Wally) Schultz.
