John Thompson Adam's parents were:

William Thom Adam, b. May 7, 1793 in Old Monkland, North Lanarkshire, Scotland and d. Jan. 15, 1875 in Gilroy, Santa Clara county, CA. 

his second wife, Margaret Main Thompson, , b. 1821 and d. about 1900.


John was b. in Salt Lake City, UT. and was christened by Brigham Young.


On Feb. 23 (or 25), 1845, 51 yr. old William Thom Adam and 23 yr. old Margaret Main Thompson were married in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland.


William and Margaret Adam's children were:

1. John Thompson Adam, b. Nov. 1853 in Salt Lake City, UT. and d. 1905 in Imperial, Imperial county, CA). John Adam marr. Mahala Jane Haun.

2. James 'Jim' Robert Adam (twin), b. Jul. 1855 in Santa Cruz county, CA. and d. Jan. 5, 1920 in Monterey County, CA. Jim never married.

3. Agnes Adam (twin), b. Jul. 1855 in Santa Cruz county, CA. and d. 1865 in Pajaro, Santa Cruz, CA. *Agnes does appear in the 1860 U. S. census, but is not with her family in the 1870 U. S. census.

In about 1886, John moved his family to Hesperia (San Bernardino county), CA.  Here, he was a vegetable farmer and life was hard.  Good was scarce and there was no money for niceties.

John and Mahala eventually moved to the Imperial Valley and talked their oldest son, Bill, into joining them with his family.  Bill only stayed a few years and then John and Mahala lived there alone.
