John was born December 26, 1938 in Climax, Michigan to Marcus and Martha (Dodder) Lindsey. After his mother died when he was four, John spent his formative years traveling around the United States with his father, staying with family and friends. He entered the Navy at the age of 17 and retired from the reserves at 37.
On September 18, 1993, John married the former Patricia "Pat" Jewell in Union City. She survives.
John went on to work for the VA hospital, where he did cooking and drove bus. He enjoyed woodcarving, fishing, hunting and was a lifetime member of the NRA. John was a family man, had a good sense of humor, was one heck of a cook and baker, but had no filter.
He liked watching the Detroit Tigers and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; eight children; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, one daughter and one son.
