Services will be Monday for Basil Clark, 90, who died at his home in Watsonville Friday.
He was a businessman in Watsonville for many years. He and his brother, Kenneth, founded Clark Brothers Transportation Co. in Pajaro Valley, and in 1955, he started Basil Clark Inc. Realtors. He retired as president of that company in 1982.
A native of Mississippi, he came to the Santa Cruz area when he was a youth and attended school here. He was a Naval instructor at Cornell University during World War I and worked in civil defense in the Pajaro Valley are during World War II. His work included employment with Standard Oil of California, court reporting in San Francisco and in purchasing for Curry Co. of Yosemite.
Mr. Clark was a member of the Watsonville Band, a charter member of the Watsonville Rotary Club and also held memberships in the Elks Club, American legion, Masons and Shriners.
He is survived by three sons, Rex Clark, a Watsonville city councilman; Kenneth Clark of Aptos and Douglas Clark of Santa Rosa; a sister, Vivian DeLara Clark of Watsonville; a sister-in-law, Eula Doyle Dado of Watsonville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Neska, in 1979. They had been married 55 years.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mehl's Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville. Pajaro Lodge F&AM will officiate. Entombment will be at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park. Donations to Watsonville Band are preferred.
