Julia Gardner Dies in Raleigh
Daily Reflector, Wed., April 3, 1935

Mrs. Julia GARDNER, about eighty years of age, died this morning at 7 o'clock at a hospital in Raleigh after an illness of several years.

Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will B. MAYO, one mile from Smith's Mill off the New Bern Road by Rev. Mr. ENNIS, pastor of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be made in the DENNIS SMITH family burial ground near the home place.

Mrs. GARDNER was born and reared in the Swift Creek territory of this county, and will be remembered by older members of the community.

She is survived by the following daughters: Mrs. Will B. MAYO, Mrs. G. W. SHACKLEFORD, of Blount's Creek, and Mrs. J. W. DUER of New Bern; three sons, Zach GARDNER of Dudley's Cross Roads community, Richard HARDEE of near Ayden, and Joe STOKES of Raleigh. She is also survived by thirty-one grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
