Carrie Bell Artist Witten, 92, of Flatwoods, Ky., expired Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
Carrie was born Dec. 27, 1915, in Greenup County, Ky., the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Wheeler Artist.
She was also preceded in death by her devoted husband of 48 years, Earl Witten; son, Millard "Mid" Witten; a grandson, Tony W. Witten of Houston, Texas; stepsons Elmer and Edgar Witten; brothers Henry, Oren, Lewis, Oliver and infant Artist; sisters Sallie Stephens, Emma Blankenship, Dasie Sizemore and Nellie Artist; and a daughter, Elsie Willis.
Carrie was a loving caring mother to Jerald W. Witten of Houston and daughter Elva Willis of Flatwoods; mother-in-law to Patty Witten and Joyce A. Witten; a devoted grandmother to Timothy W. Witten of Houston, Randy Witten of Flatwoods, Lesa Witten and Rick Mullins of Russell, Ky., and Teresa Witten (Junie) O'Brien of Grayson, Ky.; and great-grandmother of Amy L. Mullins, Amber Jo Mullins, Chancy Witten Reynolds and Christopher Witten, LaKyn O'Brien, Kacy O'Brien and Brice Witten.
Carrie was mamaw to all who knew and loved her, including nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, all of whom called her Mamaw.
"Her memory will remain in our hearts forever."
Carrie was a member of Old Steam Baptist Church of Wurtland, Ky.
Services will be at Temple Baptist Church of Flatwoods at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008. Ministers will be Pastor Jim Pridemore and Dr. Tom Melvin. Burial will be in Plum Grove Cemetery in Greenup County.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods.
