ROY MONCRIEF
Roy Robert Moncrief, 88 of La Plata, died Saturday, July 13, 1985 at the La Plata Nursing Home where he had been a patient since May 10.
Born on Mar. 16, 1897 in Macon County, he was the son of Gideon and Willie May Moncrief. On June 2, 1918 in La Plata, he married Mary Clair Barnhart, who preceded him in death on Mar. 8, 1982. Also preceding him in death was one sister, Nina Walters.
Surviving are one son, Ted Raymond Moncrief of La Plata; a grandson, Mark Moncrief; a granddaughter, Mrs. James (Melinda) Hartwig; and a sister, Frances Louise Hicks of Belleview, Illinois.
Mr. Moncrief was a lifelong resident of the La Plata area and was employed for several years by the Santa Fe Railroad. He was a veteran of WWI, a member of the Reynolds-Martin American Legion Post No. 282, and a member of the La Plata Christian Church for more than 50 years.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 15, at the La Plata Christian Church. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery under direction of the Pollock Funeral Home.
