Christine Olson and John Carlson emigrated to Big Stone County, MN when they were young children. They were part of the Swedish Baptist community of Ortonville.

Christine married John Carlson, son of Peter Carlson and Elna Jonsdotter, John was born in Sweden and emigrated with his parents and siblings at age 1.

Their first four children were born in Ortonville. Christine's husband went west to Ferndale, Washington to find work as a Logger in the lumber industry. The family later moved to Kingsburg, Fresno County, where he was a merchant and faired very well. Kingsburg, CA was a Swedish community.
