Evelyn "Mamaw" Stewart
October 28, 1928 – January 2, 2008
Evelyn "Mamaw" Stewart passed away on January 2, 2008 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. She was 79 years of age.
Evelyn was born on October 28, 1928 in Coleman, Texas to Jefferson and Velma (Doss) Browning. She married John William Stewart, Sr. on December 23, 1946 in Austin and cared for their children in their home for many years.
She lived in Rockdale for 57 years and was a member of Rockdale Christian Church.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Wayne and Tommy Browning and one sister, Bonnie McCreery.
She is survived by her sons John Stewart, Jr. and wife Carol of Port Lavaca and Gary Thomas Stewart and wife Sarah of Overton; daughters Elaine Lee Rose and husband Paul of Santa Rosa, California, Eileen Beatrice Stewart and Charles Ray Gibbs of Alabama, and Margaret Farr and husband Randy of Rockdale; one brother H.J. Browning of Rancho Mirage, California; eleven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on January 6, 2008 at the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, the Reverends Harry Stevenson and Weldon Belew presiding. Burial followed in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Pall bearers were Mike Hornung, James Duke, Ben Williams, Randy Farr, Robert Bennett and Charles Ray Gibbs. Honorary pall bearers were Ray Whited, Donald Lamb and Jimmy Lamb.
Memorials can be made to the Rockdale Christian Church.
