Robert Milton Akers was born to I. A. and Ava Akers on December 18, 1933 at Shattuck, Oklahoma. He attended Follett Schools graduating as Salutatorian of the class of 1952, in a class of all (9) boys. He went to Lubbock, Texas and graduated in 1956 from Texas Tech with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He volunteered for the draft after the wheat was planted and was sent to Korea as part of the Strategic Air Command.
After the Army, he returned home to the family ranch and went into business with his parents.

In November 1960 he married Doris Cordell in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Robert and Doris had four children who also graduated from Follett and Texas Tech.

Robert was active in the Follett community as a faithful member of the Follett United Methodist Church, Follett School Board, Soil Conservation and Farmers Grain.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris, children Allen, Susie, Kristine and Steven, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and sister Iva Ann Barber. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Gene and George.

Robert died as he lived---out with his cattle, on April 6, 2022.
