Mrs. DeBord Dies After Short Illness
Funeral services for Mrs. Matilda DeBord, 86, widow of Frank DeBord, were held last Friday afternoon at Bouton Memorial home, with Rev. Chas. Smith officiating. She was laid to rest in the Princeville cemetery. Pallbearers were Delmar Grossaint, Ralph Geiling, Merle Schaad, Walter Fast, Vaughan William and Fred Belford.
Born the daughter of Solomon and Elizabeth Blanchard Bliss in Princeville, May 7, 1863, she passed away at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Mable Geiling of Monica, June 14,1949, after a short illness. She was the youngest of a family of eight children, Onias, Charles, Ezra, Emma, Bliss Burgess, Viola Bliss Hoag, who preceded her in death and on living brother, John Bliss of Princeville.
Her grandparents were among the first settlers of Princeville, coming here in 1836 and 1838.
She received her education in the village school. She was married to Frank DeBord, Feb.3, 1881 at Peoria. To this union eight children were born: Charles of Toulon, Frank of Deer Creek, Fred of Peoria, Mrs. Fern Gourley of Peoria and Mrs. Mable Geiling of Monica, She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Pearl and Edward and one daughter Ola.
She became a Christian in her youth and united with the Methodist church and lived a pure good life to the end, She was a member of the choir and taught Sunday school for many years.
She was a member of the Eastern Union Grove Chapter No. 229
