Lois Blanche McKown
Lois Blanche McKown, daughter of Hugh B. and Elizabeth Bouton McKown, was born November 15, 1870 in Jubilee township, Peoria county, Illinois, and passed away at her home four miles southwest of Princeville, Illinois, on Monday evening, December 12, 1938, at the age of 68 years and 27 days.
When she was but three years of age her father died and she was taken into the home of an aunt, Mrs. Eliza Bouton and reared with her cousin Minnie Bouton, the two girls being as dear to each other through the years as though they were sister.
She attended the Greenbush district school and later the Princeville Academy.
About the time she was grown, she with her aunt's family moved from the farm into Princeville, and it was there she married to Charles Beall on February 4, 1891, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Alexander Smith. They made their home on the Beall farm and were blessed with five children, Stella, Everett, Ellie, Howard and Ralph.
On July 23, 1937, Mr. Beall passed away, and only a few months later her health began to break. For the past ten months she gradually failed and during the past three weeks she suffered greatly, in spite of all that doctors and loved ones could do to help.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1873, her mother in 1905 and her husband in 1937. Also two sisters passed away in their infancy and a third sister, Emma, died at the age of 27 years.
She is survived by her five children; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lean Miller and Mrs. Stella Graves, both of Princeville; one brother, A. B. McKown of Rio Linda, California, and her cousin Miss Minnie Bouton, also of Princeville, besides numerous other relatives and many friends.
She was a charter member of the Jubilee Needle Circle, which was organized about 35 years ago. She was a faithful member of this Circle as long as her health permitted, and continued to be interested in its activity and fellowship to the time of her death. She also had had an active interest in the work of the Ladies Aid of Princeville Methodist church and generously contributed to its work until the very last.
Mrs. Beall was always ready to serve her neighbors and friends in sickness of other needs, and even in the last weeks of her own great suffering she often spoke of those whom she knew to be ill and inquired as to their health and comfort.
Above all, Mrs. Beall was a devoted homemaker. She loved her home and lived for her family. Her children and grandchildren meant very much to her, and she counted it one of the great joys of life that they all lived near enough for her to have them about quite frequently in her own home. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and many friends, and will ever be remembered with affection and tenderness.
