Trace Hathaway (AKA: Mary Teeter), 79, died at 3:30 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at St. John's Hospice. She was born Mary V. Toombs on Oct. 31, 1928, in Springfield, the daughter of Frank and Evadna Gunnett Toombs.

She is survived by three sons, Matthew E. (wife, Marsha) Teeter, Timothy E. (wife, Peggy) Teeter and Tedd P. (wife, Jane) Teeter, all of Springfield; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hathaway was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Toombs. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Paul E. Teeter, Clinton Kneessi and Col. Clifford M. Hathaway Jr.; and a great-granddaughter.

Hathaway (Mary Teeter) was a graduate of Springfield High School, class of 1946, one of the 23 original Carillon Belles, a member of the Springfield Yacht Club and was a published author.
