Amelia was born into slavery to Loyd Hemphill & Margaret Dye-Hemphill. She married Milas Hampton in 1886, in Chester County. To this union four children were born. Sometime between 1900-1910, Amelia fell asleep in death. (John 11:11) Her two daughters are shown in the 1910 census living with her sister Maggie Hemphill-Boyd. The husband is living alone; and the two boys are grown men living elsewhere. Her husband and four children have joined her in resting until the resurrection on the last day. (John 5:28, 29) The children are:

Maggie Hampton-Jordan-Thomas-Brown: December 01, 1895 Chester County, South Carolina – August 29, 1959 Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina

Annie M Hampton: May 23, 1900 Chester County, South Carolina - May 04, 1983 Albermarle, Stanly, North Carolina
