Anna was born in Austria-Hungary near the Carpathian Mountain town of Kybral. She was raised on her family farm, and came to the United States and married George Vatunya in 1905. They were the parents of six children, the surnames names of the children were anglicanized by officials when they were enrolled in school. Their children were:
